IHI's long lasting history starts in 1853 when the Tokugawa shogunate established a shipyard at a Japanese town called Ishikawajima. Through the years IHI has developed as a leading shipbuilding company with highlights such as building the world's first VLCC.

IHI Marine United (IHIMU) operates shipyards in Aioi, Kure and Yokohama for shipsrepair, conversions and newbuilding of commercial and navy ships. IHI has delivered a wide range of vessels for clients worldwide, such as container carriers, chemical tankers, VLCC and many other types.

IHI Marine BV (IMBV)
IMBV was estabished in 1967 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands as an overseas subsidiary company of IHI Marine United, to serve the international shipping industry with spare parts, technical support, shipsrepair and drydocking arrangement.
